Something In The Water by Catherine Steadman
Rating: 3 of 5 stars
Catherine Steadman’s debut novel. I was looking for something different to read and stumbled upon this book. A bestseller that was recommended by Reese Witherspoon’s book club (something you should follow)
Synopsis – While honeymooning in Bora Bora, Erin and Mark, a young UK couple go scuba diving. On their return to their resort paradise, they find something in the water – hence the title. But what they do with their find triggers an interesting chain of events.
My review – A thriller but not so thrilling. The story is slow building but well written. A study in a character’s flaws and how those flaws lead them to their choices.
However, I never know when an author is purposely writing a character in such a way to frustrate the reader, the PT here is extremely frustrating. Halfway into the book, I wanted to shake some sense into her. So if that was the author’s intent, it worked.
I think my favorite part of the novel was the honeymoon scenes in Bora Bora. I always wanted to go there. I figured out the “who done it” pretty quickly but overall a good summer read.
